History of Umbrete

The municipality of Umbrete belongs to the region of the Aljarafe and it is located in the western sector of the province of Seville. In 1.996 it counted on a population of 4,709 inhabitants.

Origins of this locality turdetanos overcome until times of, when in this place or its proximities a called population Osca existed, that later would reach a greater development with the Romans, happening to denominate Umbretum. After the Muslim occupation, during which one becomes a farmhouse destined to the agricultural operation, it is conquered by the Castilian armies of Fernando III in the middle of century XIII. In the Repartimiento of Seville, confirmed by Alfonso X the Wise person, Umbrete are granted to the hispalense Archbishopric, that confronts its repoblación at the beginning of century XIV. Soon he reaches a certain urban development, when becoming the vacacional residence of the Sevillian prelates, for whom in century XVII the Archiepiscopal Palace is constructed.

The main body (123 meters of altitude) is located platform of the Aljarafe in the heat of.

The primitive farmhouse is become from the repoblación of century XIV, until dividing itself in three sectors, defined by the ways of connection with the neighboring populations (Benacazón, Sanlúcar Mayor and Bollullos). The establishment does not surpass the village character until the century XVIII, in which the Archbishopric carries out a great construction impulse. The church of Our Lady of the Consolation is elevated, recovers the Archiepiscopal Palace and the residential establishment throughout the mentioned ways is impelled, that will constitute the support of the urban growth until end of century XIX.

In century XVIII also they are conformed two fundamental central spaces, the seat of the Archbishop and the seat of Queipo de Llano and, on the same urban axis and in the direction of Benacazón, they will be the existing properties (Our Lady of Rosario and Quitapesares) the elements computers of other two seats: the one of the Hunters and the one of the Dew. Thus it will be ordered the urban center at the end of this century, with the linking of four seats aligned throughout a fundamental axis, in which the great houses of the properties, the modest houses, the church and the Archiepiscopal Palace follow one another.

In the middle of century XIX, the confiscation of Mendizábal alters the urban process, due to the seizure on the part of the City council of the Archiepiscopal Palace. In first half of century XX, the growth continues regularly, without important alterations in the urban plot. In years 60 they appear quarters with new tipologías, such as the one of Maria Fernandez Palaces, the one of the Dew (to the southwest, in the highway of Benecazón) and the one of Consolation (to the Southeastern, in the highway of Bollullos), that extends until the limit of the municipal term.

The urban plot of Umbrete today reflects with clarity its origin like agrarian establishment, with the original nucleus located in the central and northern sector of the population. Soon the extensions throughout the ways from Benacazón (to the southwest), Sanlúcar (to the west) and Seville would come (to the east). The most recent growth has taken place fundamentally in the southern and Eastern sector of the town, in the exit towards Bollullos and the Freeway of the Centennial V, with a layout much more to regulate in its streets that the initial sector. It is in this zone, and something separated of the main body, where is the urbanization of unifamiliares houses the Inheritance. Altogether, the nucleus presents/displays a starred morphology something, that still maintains vestiges of the development throughout the ways of exit of the population.
