The municipality of San Nicholas of the Port is located in the northern sector of the province of Seville, belonging to the region of the North Mountain range and to the scope of the Natural Park of the same name. In 1.996 it had a population of 726 inhabitants, of whom approximately ¾ parts resided in the main body. The other organization of population of the term is the old mining town of the Hill of the Iron. The first slumses in these earth go back to the distant times of celtas, that settle down in a denominated place Iporci. The Romans also leave his impronta, existing numerous rest that therefore testify it, most important of which it is the stone bridge on the Galindón river, reformed in the Average Age. According to some authors, the Romans found on the same previous establishment the city of Fortuumade or Fortunales, nailed in lands of high strategic value. The main body is surrounded by hills by the east, the southwest and the northwest, being located in the environs of the birth of the Creek of Huéznar. In this locality the highways come together that arrive from Cazalla of the Mountain range (by the west), of Alanís (by the north) and of Constantina and the Hill of the Iron (by the this-Southeastern). San Nicholas has structured itself by the road axis that runs of north to this-Southeastern, that confers to the nucleus an extended linear morphology to him. Only in the zone of the church, to the west of the central sector, a slight widening of the urban plot exists. The most recent expansions are taking place towards the Southeastern, in the exit of Constantina and the Hill of the Iron, and towards the northeast, throughout the channel of the Galindón stream (in both margins). In this zone an artificial beach exists, that is used for the bath in the summer months. Between its constructions of artistic historical interest they emphasize the church of San Sebastián (Xv-xvi centuries), the hermitage of San Diego and the stone cruise (century XVI) existing to the entrance of the population. |
