History of Pruna
 

The municipality of Pruna is located in the southern end of the province of Seville, being adjacent with the one of Cadiz and belonging to the region of the South Mountain range. In 1.996 it counted on a population of 3,475 inhabitants.

In these earth archaeological rest corresponding to the neolithic period exist. The first stable establishment seems to correspond to the túrdulos, that found a called town Callet on the site known like "the castle". Also there are rest of the passage of the Phoenicians, the Greeks (who denominate Prunna) and of the Romans. Under the Arab dominion, a farmhouse or village (Xilibar) dedicated to the agricultural workings becomes. After its conquest by Christian part, king Alfonso X the Wise person, within the Repartimiento of Seville, the delivery to the horsemen of the Order of Calatrava. The locality still remains for more than two centuries in a situation very next to the Muslim border, constituting an establishment little surely. In 1.457, king Enrique IV gives to his safekeeping to the horseman twenty-four Rodrigo of Shore. The new Mr. of Pruna reinforces the walls, reconstructs the castle and repuebla the village. In 1.482, Ponce of Leon is sold to Rodrigo, happening to depend on the ducado one of Arcs until the abolition of the señoríos in century XIX.

The urban nucleus is located between several hills, that surround to him by the east and the west. It causes that their morphology rather is extended, with approximate direction the north-south. The original nucleus seems to locate itself in the southern sector of the population, existing apples of irregular plot around the church and the City council.

The later urban developments have caused a linear growth towards the north-northeast and, to a lesser extent, towards the northwest, throughout the exits of the population in the direction of Algámitas and Morón of the Border (wagon Se-458 and Se-462). Sector in the last mentioned the great equipment are located public (sport, educative) of the locality.

Between its constructions of artistic historical interest they emphasize the church of San Antonio Abbot (Xvii-xviii centuries) and the ruins of the castle (century XV).

And leaving the tribute a "average lion" taking in its skilful hand a "cross of gules", and in the left-hand side a "average moon of silver", both inserted standards in "individual flags", the one of silver and other of azur, one erects and the other fall.
