The municipality of Shutdowns occupies a quite central position of the province of Seville, belonging to the region of the Countryside. Its population in 1.996 promoted 7,014 inhabitants, most of which resided in the main body. Between the remaining organizations of population of the term it emphasizes the small village of the Palomar.
These earth conserve rest of the time of Roman colonization, existing authors who mention a stable establishment of called population Shuts up, whereas others think that in the zone agriculturists only existed a series of villae. At Arab time something similar happens, also are rest of several isolated establishments that do not reach the category of urban nucleus, although in this case yes they have a castle to defend the strategic location. In century XV, Castilian king Enrique IV grants Puebla Letter to the Marquess of Cadiz, Juan Ponce of Leon, with privileges and tax exemptions to found a population on the site known like the Shutdowns. In that place a sale for the rest and feeding of the travellers existed, as well as a drinking trough and the facilities necessary to make the relief of the cavalries. The Marquess of Cadiz repuebla with people comings of Astorga (Leon) and constructs a strength, that will be the origin of the nucleus. In 1.774 he reaches the category of Villa
Stopped it locates on one of promontories which they lay out the longitudinal step of the Countryside, in concrete the one that one constitutes between the stream the Manco and the stream Albino of Doña Juana, two affluents of the Guadaira. The slopes are smooth more in accentuated the central sectors of the establishment and in slopes of the promontory, mainly to the northwest and southwest, where values around 20 % are reached, constituting authentic barriers to the extension of the urban nucleus.
The place that occupies Shutdowns finds determined by the intersection of several routes: The main one is the Se-127 highway (Arahal-Paradas-Marchena), that runs of southwest to the northeast, coincident with the direction of the step that crosses the countryside longitudinally. Its passage by the urban nucleus constitutes one of the more important urban avenues (Long street and others). Other important routes are the Se-128 highway, that connects the Carmona-Marchena highway with the A-92 and that crosses Shutdowns of north to the south, the Real Gorge of Seville (to the west) and the Highway of the Station, made at the end of century XIX as it connects between the railway installation and the highway of Malaga.
The original nucleus is located next to the birth of the stream of the Pillar, there where mentioned wagon Se-127 is crossed the paths of Carmona and Seville (old via Roman). In that same place the old Strength and the source of the Pillar are located, in the North end of the present nucleus. From there, the urban expansion takes place basically in three directions, coincident with the three vertices of the base of the promontory (towards Arahal, Marchena and Morón) and with very similar intensities in all of them. The old helmet of Shutdowns reproduces with enough approach the triangular form of the base of the promontory. The development towards Marchena (to the northeast) stays stable to the height of the source of the Cañuelo, without getting to occupy all the promontory. Towards Arahal (to the southwest) it is progressed beyond the limits of the old helmet, on both margins of the highway. Towards Morón (to the south), the occupation extends by the southern slope of the promontory until the stream the Manco.
The present morphology of Shutdowns is quite complex, being its plot result of the superposition of three different models. The linear urban form of the northern sector includes/understands great part of the old helmet and it is associated to the passage of the Se-127 highway and to the longitudinal step of the countryside, with predominant direction of southwest of the northeast. A radiocéntrica, incomplete form happens to him in the space and the time by the force of the passage longitudinal, and related to the set of rural ways that converge in the urban nucleus. This second form is located in the periphery of the old helmet, without penetrating in him. To the two previous forms cross-sectional one is superposed finally another, integrated by operations of inner reform in the oldest areas of the nucleus and by performances of recent extension towards the Southeastern.
Between the urban sectors of Shutdowns they emphasize the Old Helmet, with difference the most significant part of the urban weave; the sectors eras of San Albino (to the Southeastern) and highway of Arahal (to the southwest), that welcomes cattle uses, of warehouse and industrialists; and the sector San Albino/Los Holms-oak forest, in the Southeastern end of the nucleus, in lands pertaining to the southern slope of the promontory where it is located Shutdowns. In this last sector, and on the basis of a layout of straight and parallel streets, the Holms-oak forest are located to the recent residential performance "", the hermitage of San Albino, as well as several equipment public of educative and sport character.
Between its constructions of artistic historical interest they emphasize the Church of San Eutropio (century XVIII, of baroque style), the rest of Palacio-Fortaleza of the Dukes of Arcs (century XV), the hermitage of San Albino, the City council and the sources of the Pillar and the Cañuelo.
