History of Los Corrales

The municipality of the Corrals is located in the Southeastern sector of the province of Seville, being bordering with the one of Malaga and belonging to the region of the South Mountain range. In 1.996 it counted on a population of 4,150 inhabitants. Main the urban nucleus is located in an enclave of waved landscape near the Mountain range of the Horses.

These earth already are occupied by the man during the Roman domination, existing diverse archaeological rest that therefore testify it. The Arabs, who denominate to the locality the Almadenes, take advantage of the mineral resources the zone, deposits of iron and coal and plaster quarries. In the final period of the Muslim dominion, this zone is become depopulated by the constant battles with the Castilian troops, who make of this one an uncertain territory for a stable establishment. After the Christian conquest, its repoblación confronts being created the Puebla of the Corrals, in reference to the stables where the cattle kept from Duke de Osuna. The modest village is prospering little by little and, after diverse litigations with the city of Osuna throughout century XVIII, it reaches the category of Villa in 1.802.

The primitive establishment constitutes the small zone of irregular apples that is located in the southern sector of the population, next to the stream and looking for the protection that provides the located hill there to him. As the topography prevents the expansion towards the south, the historical growth of the nucleus have gone towards the north, with apples of greater size and forms extended oriented in East-West approximate direction.

The passage of the highways that unite to him by the east with Martín of the Rockrose (Se-480) and by the west with the Saucejo (Se-481) structures the nucleus largely, constituting the main avenue of the same one. The most recent growth have taken place to the north of this route, a sector where the direction of apples is variable. Altogether, it is a nucleus that presents/displays a quite compact morphology.

Between its constructions of artistic historical interest the Greater one emphasizes the Church of Santiago (century XVIII).
