The municipality of the Stem of Andalusia is located in the proximities of the South Mountain range, in the Southeastern end of the province of Seville, being adjacent with the one of Malaga. Its population in 1.996 promoted 4,175 inhabitants.
These earth have been occupied by the man from very remote times. At Iberian time a denominated population Uraquao existed, in whose environs it could be celebrated one of the battles fought between the legions of Julio Caesar and Pompeyo in the Roman republican period. During good part of the Muslim domination and once disgrega the Islamic unit Andalusian, this zone is located in the border between the kingdoms of Granada and Seville. This situation bordering causes that the Arabs denominate to the locality Stem, that means "portazgo", to be in her the customs where the rights of passage between both Muslim kingdoms were paid. Around the position they are grouped houses until conforming a small population center. Its definitive conquest by Christian part is made in 1.283, during the reign of Alfonso X the Wise person. Its situation near the border of the nazarí kingdom little turns an establishment surely until the end of Reconquista, advising against the installation to him of colonos. In century XVI it is gotten up to the properties of the marquesado one of Steppe, under whose señorío and jurisdiction one stays until the abolition of the satately regime in century XIX.
The urban nucleus is located in both margins of the channel of the Yeguas river, that originating of the southwestern tour towards the north when arriving at the height of the population. The Stem has been crossed historically of north to the south by the highway N-334 (Seville-Malaga), but recently it has been constructed like variant of same the Railcar of the 92, that runs to the west of the nucleus, closely together of the same one. In the northern sector of the locality two lines of railroad come together in addition, that have supposed an important urban barrier by the north and the east. The presence of so many longitudinal barriers (wagon, railroad, river) turn to him a little compact nucleus.
The old helmet is located next to the fluvial channel, taking place the later developments in several directions: towards the north, towards the west-northwest and the east (to the other side of the river). Between its constructions of artistic historical interest they emphasize the church of Santa Ana (Xvi-xvii centuries) and the chapel of the Slaves.
