HISTORY OF LA RINCONADA
HILL MACARENO
 

From second half of century VIII to principles of century I a.c. (last stage of the Bronze and the beginnings of the romanización), the place of the "Macareno Hill" was inhabited, where the found vestiges of greater importance are material Phoenicians, specially ceramic of red varnish, century VII a.c., ática ceramics of centuries V and IV before the Christian era, as well as diverse currencies, ceramics and Roman amphoras of centuries II and I a.c.

Also they have appeared rest of mud houses, of circular and rectangular plant.

At the beginning of century I a.c., the town undergoes the abandonment, probably due to a phenomenon related to the change of situation of the meander of the Guadalquivir, that primitively happened through the side of the "Macareno Hill". For this reason, lost the fluvial, harbor and commercial character, disappears.

Another factor of the depopulation, was the great height that it acquired, in Roman times, a near town, known like "Ilipa Magna", the famous Roman port of the present Alcala of the River.

The Macareno Hill is located in the base of the low terrace of the Guadalquivir, in the middle of the alluvial plain, to about 9 km to the N-ne of Seville,
This archaeological deposit has a surface of about 50,000 m2. At the moment for being inhabited rio Guadalquivir, that at the moment is to about 2 km, it had to circulate in one of his meanders around the Almonazar Stream, that is the one that at the moment happens next to him.
The Macareno Hill was a town with more than 600 years of existence in the I Millenium to C. was inhabited from half-full of century VIII a.C. to principles of century I a.C.
First vestiges to the time of the Final Bronze correspond his, reason why it had to be one of the urban establishments of the TARTESSOS kingdom. The Tartessos river (today Guadalquivir) would happen closely together of him. Its disappearance, by abandonment of its inhabitants, could be due to a change in the course of the river, that went retiring progressively towards the East.
