On fertile territories of the region Sevillian of the Countryside, and watered by the Corbones and the brook of Old Mother, the villa of La Campana is located.
The total population of the municipality in 1.996 promoted 5,260 inhabitants.
This municipality dates, like place of establishment and population, remote times; apparently, the origins of the Bell go back to the Age of the Bronze.
They do not become to have historical references of the place until century XIII. Indeed with the first years of Reconquista the name arises from the population, since the line of defense of the Morisca Band was fortified, in prevention of incursions of the Muslims of Granada being placed bells in certain possible towers to give alert. Another version proposes that the name is coming from the region in which is, Campanna or Campiña. In any case, the town was constituted like villa in century XV. Was king Juan II the one that gave it to Miguel Bocanegra, who gave it as well as he equips his daughter when he contracted marriage with the Count of Arcs. Of this family it happened soon to the real one after the wedding of a daughter of the Count of Arcs with Don Martín of Cordova. Infant Doña Juana, sister of Felipe II, sold it to Marquess de Villanueva of the River being for this family until the suppression of the señoríos in century XIX, when she organized herself like Constitutional City council.
The villa of the Bell has evolved city-planning from a walled original nucleus, of very ample proportions for the present size of the town and that, more likely, did not consolidate by the construction until very recent times (probably, century principles). From the consolidation of this original nucleus, the nucleus has expanded years in the last, in direction this, with the Quarter Ruiz Alarcón and the constructions around the Municipal Swimming pool.
The urban structure that presents/displays the nucleus at the moment, is basically orthogonal from two great perpendicular axes, in whose center the seat is located in which the White and the City council are located the Church of Santa Maria. This urban plot has determined an apple set great in the original nucleus oriented, cases, of the northwest and Southeastern, and in others, of southwest to the northeast. In the recent expansions but the urban plot stays with an orthogonal structure, although, apples of reduced size are formed but.
The monumental content of the Bell is limited, as usually it happens in many other towns of Sevillian geography, its churches. One of them is the one of Santa Maria the White, neoclassic of the XIX. The Church of San Sebastián, on the other hand, was the old Convent of San Francisco of century XVIII, time to which they belong his manifold and varied art works. Finally is the Church of San Lorenzo, small construction also of century XVIII.
