The municipality of Espartinas is located in the western sector of the province of Seville, belonging to the region of the Aljarafe. In 1.996 it counted on a population of 4,160 inhabitants.
The origins of this locality go back to Roman time, at which a villa pertaining to the patricio Spartus had to exist, that would give name him. During the Muslim domination fué one more a farmhouse of the district of Hish-al-Farach (San Juan de Aznalfarache). The Order of Malta the conquest for Corona of Castile in 1.249, under the reign of Fernando III Santo. His son and successor, Alfonso X the Wise person, grants to real law and shield to him in Cortes of Seville of 1.281. Espartinas little by little concentrates to the inhabitants of the farmhouses or neighboring villages, that are become depopulated and reducing to the simple small villages of the properties. Century XVII Horseman of Goatherd becomes señorío of Diego shortly after, being created the Marquesado de Tablante.
In century XVIII, the urban nucleus already is sufficiently consolidated and its slow growth has followed the irregular forms of the original plot. Later, Espartinas grows towards the south, in perpendicular to the fundamental axis of the N-431 highway (Huelva-Seville). Are groups of houses leaned, ordered of more regular form on the continuation of the old roadway. When existing greater slopes in the Eastern edge of the helmet, the growth goes towards the west. For years, a certain tendency of appearance of urbanizations of second residences, supported on the N-431 highway has been taking place fundamentally and in the direction of Villanueva of the Ariscal, it is to say towards the west and the northwest, tendency that today has been debilitated. It is the case of Iron Door, Residential the Orange blossoms, the Paraiso of the Garden, the Three Pines, the Retirement, etc. Also some urbanization in the southern end exists.
The present urban morphology is a reflection of the historical process of growth. The development of the urban helmet has been clearly longitudinal (in East-West direction), throughout the N-431 highway, with a radical cut in the expansion towards the east and a continuity towards the south, direction in which continues the growth. The scheme of the urban plot is hierarchized by the passage of the highway, to that they come together the rest of vias, with an irregular, safe layout in the most recent performances, than better they are ordered and they count on streets and straight apples. The growth to the north of the highway has been much smaller than towards the south. Between the traditional urban helmet and the new urbanizations certain physical discontinuity takes place.
Between its constructions of artistic historical interest they emphasize the Parochial Church of Asuncio'n (century XVII), the Sanctuary of Our Mrs. of Loreto (century XIV) and the set of properties (Mejina, the Favor, the Remedies, the Fortune, Tablante).
