The town of Camas is clearly certain for its vicinity to the capital of the one that dista only about 4 kilometers. It belongs to the district of the Aljarafe and it is located next to the route of the Silver (National Highway 630, Seville - Gijón) in a plain located in the right riverbank of the Guadalquivir, with an altitude of 13 mts. on the level of the sea. The total population of the municipality ascended in 1.996 to 25.679 inhabitants.
The origins of the colonization in this municipality VIII go back a century before Christ, as he/she testifies him the appearance in their lands of the Treasure of The Carambolo, belonging to the Empire of Tartessos. However, more trustworthy data don't exist until the Arab time, in the one that the historian Morgado speaks of an Arab alquería that was denominated Ebu Al-Kama, already appearing with its current name in the later documentation to the Reconquest. In the Christian Distribution, the village was included in the jurisdiction of Seville, being subscribed to the City council until having entered the XVI century. The exact date is ignored, but it seems to be that it was during Felipe's reign II when Beds acquired its own municipality. Alarcón Martin picks up a date document June 11 1.641 for the one that consists that mayor, call already existed by the way Antonio Lorenzo of Andrade. The evolution starting from those dates went similar to that of other municipalities of the area, until the second half of this century in the one that the expansion of the capital and its influence on the municipality, they make it become an authentic city, I don't only eat bedroom of the capital, but also with an important industrial installation. Data of the year 1.992 speak of 175 companies implanted in the municipality and a surface of floor industrial superior to the 30 hectares, data that, without a doubt, they will have increased in the last years.
The nucleus native of the city has its center in the Square of the Constitution, in which is located the Church of Santa María of Grace and the old City council. It presents an urban structure determined by 4 roads that cross in crosses and in whose center the mentioned square is located. This first area goes limited its growth at the end of last century for the installation of the railroad Seville - Huelva that was dismantled at the beginning of the years 90 with the new established metropolitan net of face to the Universal Exhibition of 1.992. This barrier that supposed the layout of the road, was reinforced during the years 70 with the construction of the freeway that reduced the growth in address limited west to small expansions, in some marginal cases, in the water-courses of the cornice of the Aljarafe.
For everything it, the nucleus native directed its expansion of residential character, in address this and north, concentrating the expansion of industrial character toward the south. The growth in address this it has been limited starting from the year 92 for the construction of the railcar of circumvallation of Seville SE - 30.
The current urban structure of the nucleus is very complex, because its development has taken place to each other through small far away nuclei and of the nucleus native and that, until the year 1.981, they were considered as population entities different from the city of Beds. It is the case of The Neckerchief, Quarter of Coca of the Piñera, Quarter of Santa Rosa, New Seville, the Cruz's Quarter or the Industrial Polygon built in the years 70 to the north of the city and bordering with the neighboring municipality of Santiponce.
The constructions that are conserved date mainly of the XVIII century, like it is the case of the Church of Santa María of Grace, inaugurated in 1.800 and that it has an altarpiece bigger than style neoclassicist.
They are places of interest, also, the old Arab alquería of the Farm of Gamboaz, Santa Brígida's Hill and the Arboretum. This last one located in the Station of Treatment of Drinkable Water of The Carambolo, point from the one that the public company EMASESA supplies from drinkable water to the city of Seville and a wide number of municipalities of its metropolitan area.
